The Cross Of Jesus In The Context Of Eternal Reality: Part 1 | Sermon By Bishop Gobanga

Sermons

For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

Hebrews 9:13-14 KJV

The supernatural end of all creation is the union with God.

Sin profoundly affected the order of creation. God has always wanted to be one with creation; sin caused the separation.

The purpose of Jesus’ advent in the world was to reinstate the original plan of God, which was to unite creation back to God. He didn’t come to take us to heaven. Christ decided to partake of the sinful nature of man and offer it to God as a Son to the Father.

God didn’t create mankind to be independent from Him but to be dependent on Him and Him alone. Each of us is the expression of God in the earthly realm. We exist to manifest God.

When we grasp the consciousness of Christ being in our very being, it will be possible for us to be one with Christ. We are all collectively in Christ Jesus in the God head. When we are all united in Christ, we are able to experience His fullness.

The same mind that was in Christ Jesus will never speak to you and say you are separated from the nature and character of God. Everyone in Christ Jesus is one with God and with other people.

For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity..

Ephesians 2:14-16 KJV

The middle wall of partition denotes the division in one’s own mind, dividing the old and the new mind. The problem of sin is in your mind. When you are separated from the mind of God you are incapacitated to fellowship with truth. The devil seeks to fill your mind with deception.

Jesus didn’t just come to save our souls but also to break the wall in our minds so that we’re able to experience the fullness of God’s mind.

The cross of Jesus Christ is the highest expression of the Spirit of God. The cross of Jesus is what enables Him to be our mediator in heaven.

There was a Spirit that motivated Jesus to the cross. Until you know the Spirit that led Christ to the cross, you can never know the cross and Christ. The thing about the cross that should inspire us to the cross is the very same thing that is abhorred about it.

The Holy Spirit of the Pentecost is the Spirit of the cross. The cross of Jesus is what enables the Holy Spirit to be given to us. The Spirit of God will always lead you back to the cross. The Spirit that led Christ is the same Spirit that leads people to the cross.

The death of Christ was not just a physical death. If it was, then Abel could have paid the price of redemption for humanity. If it was only a physical death, then any priest who walked the earth would have been sufficient to pay the price for sin.

Eternal life has a lot to do with the spirit of a man and not the body. The spirit of a man does not die. In spiritual terms, death means separation from God and purpose.

The spirit world existed without a beginning and will continue to exist. The physical world had a beginning and will have an end.

Our most intimate fellowship with the Spirit is the cross. In the physical realm, the cross was an event but in the spiritual realm, it’s not.

Sin brought separation from God and led members of the human race to exist autonomously. Sin crippled our desire and unlimited capacity to be able to function in our collective essence as children of God.

When you allow sin to be in your life, it will incapacitate your function as a child of God and ability to perceive your brother in the Lord.

The anointing of God works in relationship. If we are to experience the flow of the anointing of the Spirit of God in our churches, we must be in one accord as different parts of the body. We must be in relationship with one another.

The cross of Jesus was ordained to end division between God and man. The tearing of the curtain of the temple was not just to end division between man and God but also between man and man.

The Spirit of the cross inspires us as believers to remain united in Christ. Revival is first personal before it’s corporate. Those who’ve experienced the power of the cross no longer see themselves as separated from others. The cross came to address some of the mindsets we have towards each other that makes fellowship hard with others.

The Spirit of the cross empowers you to accomplish the impossible.

Systems and worldly patterns are enforced by our minds. Therefore, the word of God must renew our minds.

You know that you have the mind of Christ when you see sinners as potential candidates for the kingdom. For example, how Jesus dealt with Zaccheus. A worldly mindset judges people based on what they did in the past. A spiritual mindset judges people based on who they are in God. One mark of maturity is that you become less critical.

The Spirit of the cross is what enabled Jesus to attain eternal life for us. Jesus was inspired by the Spirit of the cross. If we are going to impact the world with the gospel, then we should allow the Spirit of God to lead us in dealing with others.

The Spirit of God will lead you to people and places you’d rather not be with or be in. However, for the purpose of dealing with a wrong mindset that it must happen.

The Spirit of the cross was operational in Jesus’ life even before He was born on earth. As the Spirit of the cross begins to animate the life you live, being crucified with Jesus will have a new meaning.

You can never overcome temptation on your strength. You can only overcome it by the working of the Spirit. God does not rely on your ability to achieve His purpose. He wants you to rely on Him.

To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God

Ephesians 3:10 KJV

The intention of God was for the principalities and powers to know the manifest wisdom of God through man. The devil does not have revelational knowledge. He can only put thoughts in your mind and wait for you to react.

Jesus was focused on His assignment because of the spirt working in Him. The cross is most perfect expression of the mind of the Spirit of God. God ordained the cross to deal with self and fill man with Himself.

Sometimes, God will hide certain things from us because we do not have the maturity to handle them yet.

When a God begins to introduce you to the platform of your assignment, the devil rises to contend with you. Do not focus on them that are against you or your assignment. Focus on God.

The only way to separate yourself from sin is death. Death to self and death to the world. There is no higher place God can take a believer apart from the fellowship of the cross.

When you seek the fullness of the Spirit, you are seeking fellowship of the Spirit that will lead you to the cross. Suffering has a prophetic purpose. If it didn’t Jesus would not have suffered.

The cross is not an after thought. It’s a mystery hidden in the heart and mind of God.

When God has declared something about your life, you must take it as if it’s your own and let it have it’s internal work in you. When you get saved your identity has to change. Everything about you changes.
