Do not lean on the pity of men! For the pity of man is but a shadow. The pity of man vanishes with the setting sun.
It is a comfort that fades, a tear that dries, a word that loses its power when the moment passes.
The Lord says, “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the LORD.” (Jeremiah 17:5–6)
“Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save.” (Psalm 146:3)
But thus says the Lord: “My favour is life” (Psalm 30:5). “Surely, I bless the righteous and surround them with favour as with a shield.” (Psalm 5:12)
My favour will lift you when others forget you, open doors no man can close, and cause you to stand when the ground beneath others gives way.
For “the LORD makes firm the steps of the one who delights in Him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with His hand”. (Psalm 37:23–24)
“The arm of flesh will fail you, but My righteous right hand will uphold you.” (Isaiah 41:10).
Now is the hour to turn your eyes from the approval of men and fix them upon the Lord your God.
